It started with a pulse type feeling in my stomach area a little over 6 weeks ago. One day I got a very strong pain almost like a huge cramp, this subsided. This was about 6 weeks ago, I have constant wind and stomach rumblings. My stools are always loose, not totally loose but semi loose. I sometimes see a layer of like oil over the surface of the water, the stools are always a similar colour. I do not have any blood. The pain is what I call uncomfortable.

I have changed by diet totally. Not drank milk for over a week and no coffee or fizzy drinks. I%E2%80%99m still getting the symptoms.

please see the detailed answer below...

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service...
I've gone through your query in details as well as reviewed the image...
I can understand your concern...

It seems like a semi-formed loose stool. All these symptoms are primarily pointing towards a change of bowel habits, which could be seen in a condition termed as IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome). However, the oily substance could be indicating a hepato-biliary or pancreatic absorption/secretory insufficiency.

This definitely needs further investigations (namely Hemogram, LFT, KFT, Amylase, Lipase, and a USG abdomen as a part of evaluation) as well as a thorough Gastroenterological check-up.

As per your description, it seems to be happening for quite a while now. So, please be advised to see the Gastroenterologist and proceed further as detailed.

It's a good thing that you've changed your diet already. But it's something which needs to be looked into in more details for further management.

For pain, you may take a mild analgesic like ACETAMINOPHEN up to thrice daily. Additionally, PPI/antacid medication such as OMEPRAZOLE (eg. Prilosec) once daily can be tried for 6-8weeks and observe how you stay afterward.

Drink plenty of water, electrolyte-rich drink (coconut water, Gatorade etc.) throughout the day to avoid dehydration during this phase.

As for the excessive gas formation, a few additional suggestions would be:

-Certain food products are notorious for causing gas and bloating. These include high-fat dairy products, cheese, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, lentils, kidney beans, and chickpeas primarily. Please avoid them.

-Have brown/multigrain bread instead of regular white bread.

-Try to have fish, fish products, chicken and avoid red meat.

-Have plenty of fresh green vegetables, simple homemade foods, salads, curd based diet, avoid any form of spicy food...

-Eat in small portions but at regular intervals (have 4-5 small meals a day rather than having 2-3 large meals)...never skip breakfast and always have some healthy foods in breakfast (eg. some baked slices of brown/multigrain bread, boiled eggs, oats, yogurt, muesli etc.)

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind Regards

Brief Answer:
not to be worried, but definitely worthwhile to get evaluated further...

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back,

I wouldn't be too worried at this outset. However, considering it's happening for quite a while now, it's definitely worth to get evaluated in order to get a specific diagnosis. Management would be quite specific also.

Please don't get too worried over it, but please don't delay any longer also.

Just follow all the advice detailed earlier, you'd be seeing improvement within a while only.

Hope you found this useful.

Let me know how it goes afterward.

Take Care
Kind Regards
