Question : Hi,
My legs above ankle area. I bought calf length socks and after wearing them for gym and office itching started. And it is intense itching in that area. Some time back also i had the same issue. When i wear ankle lenght short socks i dont get any itching. My doubt is the itching is really becz of socks or some other conditions like diabetes and kidney
disease? Last time after getting itching like this i have gone for general checkup and everything was normal. Since the itch lasts more than three days i am worried.

Brief Answer:
Use a moisturizer
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and noted your concern.
It is perhaps due to skin irritation/dermatitis from the socks. The increased sensitivity to irritation may be a contributory factor and could be due to underlying dryness of the skin. I suggest you to use a moisturizer regularly. In addition to that you may take an oral antihistamine e.g cetirizine 10mg tablet once a day for a few days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

Hi, thanks for your response.
I forgot to mention that i had similar itch on my left knee. Only on left knee.
is it also becz of the dryness? Why it is intermittent. Sometimes it goes off and comes again and lasts for weeks.
Dont i need to worry of it?

Hi.
Just use a moisturizer regularly. Yes, it is most likely due to underlying dryness of the skin. Nothing to worry. Take care.
