Hi, My Mother Has This Burning Sensation Constantly She Says

Question: Hi,

My mother has this burning sensation constantly she says way down in her stomach but feels mainly in her urinary tract area and stool area. But after eating most foods now the feeling gets so much worse. She can barely eat any food without causing so much discomfort...she's had all the urinary tests done, bladder camera, CT pelvis w/ XXXXXXX endoscopy and nothing is coming back positive for anything...just this constant raw burning sensation down there. She's 66 and a gyno recommended estrogen cream but it seems like all foods are bothering her and she can't ear anything for the most part...oatmeal here and there. One of the GI's mentioned colitis....he's waiting on the biopsy report from the other GI doctor but they ruled out any ulcers from the end, etc....any idea what this could be? Diverticulus maybe?

Brief Answer:
Mri pelvis to be done

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for choosing Ask a Doctor service for your query,
Burning means that any nerve in that area is irritated.
As per you her cystoscopy and urinary tests plus sigmoidoscopy for rectum has been done and every thing is clear.
If that is the case then it could be chronic pelvic pain and a MRI of pelvis should be done to see if any organ in pelvic area is not fine.
MRI is a gold standard test that has to be done in case of pelvic pain.
I would suggest you to go for a MRI pelvis and follow up with reports.
I don't think it's diverticulitis because in that XXXXXXX pain is there and not burning rather diagnosis can be chronic pain.
Please get the MRI pelvis done and revert back..CT pelvis won't clearly show organs so mri should be done on 3 Tesla machine.
Thanks

Hi,

1) Should she get the mri w/contrast or without?

2) Also, as soon as she eats something she gets instant overwhelming taste bud sensations and burning, as well. Salty food is amplified like a 100 fold she says. She can only tolerate foods like eggs, oatmeal, plain baked fish, yams and that's pretty much it. She says there's a weird constant burning feeling in her vagina area and she feels like her urinary tracts are constantly inflamed and burning. But no uti's in her urine sample but as soon as she eats, it just triggers this electric/fire sensation in that area. One of the gyno's recommended an estrogen cream 2x/week but not helping but almost feels more plugged with the urine flow. I read about vulvodynia and hormone replacement -- can that be the causes by chance?

She's also been taking Xanax (Alprazolam 2mg) 1x/day for like 10 years now I believe, can that finally be causing these types of side effects, as well?

Thank you for any input.
