Question : Hi
My wife is 8th month pregnant now. She had the haemoglobin level 10.2 during first month of pregnancy. It got dropped to 8.7 in 8th month, despite using speedral tablets for 6-7 months. Could you please explain the possible reasons for the drop in levels and why the tablets have not worked

I have gone through your history and understood your concern.
It could be due to haemodilution during pregnancy.
It could be due to increased demand during pregnancy.
It could be due to decrease absorption during pregnancy.
Sometimes injections can be given to increased the haemoglobin because medicine are not effective as in your case.
I.V.iron therapy can be given in your case if Hb is less than 8gm%
