                                            Question : Hi,
My wife is a server hypochondriac - I will start by saying that. She went in for a simple sinus infection. The physicians assistant. heard a "swooshing" sound and asked if she had ever had a heart murmur. She has not. The P.A. then asked her to hold her breath and it went away. She was not concerned after that - but my wife is still holding on that it is an early sign of parkinson's disease. To me - if it stopped when she held her breath it is not a heart murmur. If it was - it would still be present (and louder) without the sound of her breathing. Is this correct? The Physicians Assistant said she did not even need a follow up because the sound disappeared. Can you confirm that if it was a heart murmur it would indeed still be there even holding her breath?

                                    Brief Answer:
heart murmur can not disappear
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
First, heart murmur is result of heart muscle or valve disorder and it is present with every heart beat so it cant disappear just like that. Also, it would be louder when stopped breathing. PA probably heard some lung wheezing or bronchal stridor which can happen from time to time and is not dangerous.
I would not be concerned about all this. If you have any doubts, she can do ultrasonography but i dont think this is required at this point. WIsh you good health. Regards
