Question: Hi, Recently during my preventive health check up I am diagnosed with hypertension. My bp was 161/110 initially during first visit and after taking amlodipine 5 mg BD for 6 days it reduced to 150/90. During 2nd visit, I undergone TMT test. Only issue observed was with heart rate. Heart rate increases with slight activity from 125 to 150 and also it took several minutes after TMT for regain the heart rate if 125. even in ecg, heart rate is 120. I am obsessed with weight of 109 kg and seeing my reports doctor has suggested amtas at 50 and other medicines for high uric acid and cholesterol. Attaching the prescription and ecg report for your reference. Kindly let me know if amtas at is a safe option to start with. or some other medicine to be taken. I have read too many side effects for amtas at. Also review the other suggested medicines. My blood tests lft, kft , echo, ultrasound, sugar, CBC are all normal. My age is 37 years.

Brief Answer:
Yes Amtas AT is good

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome
This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist.
I didn't see any attachments. kindly send them again.
Your main problem is actually obesity leading to other complications like high bp, high cholesterol, high uric acid. So primarily you should try to loose weight.
Amtas AT is a good drug for bp and you can continue on it. Amtas is a pretty neutral drug with little side effects like leg swelling. So their is nothing to worry and you can continue it.
Their are other better medications but if your bp is controlled by it you should continue taking it.
Persistence of high heart rate even after stopping tread mill suggests your high sympathetic drive again because of obesity. It also signifies that you can have blockage in heart vessels in future.
So try to reduce weight and you will see that things will start getting better itself.
Thanks.

Thanks for your prompt reply. Attaching my ecg report and prescription again. Is there any possibility that if I lose weight and bp is under control, I could stop taking amtas at in future. I am concerned about long time usage of amtas at and want to make changes in my lifestyle in lieu of medication. Thanks in advance.
