Question : Hi. This happened to me last night and I got a response to the question from a dentis who simply said not to fly and to see a dentist . Im a bit concerned about the other symptoms listed below that had happened . Can u give me any advice on what I should do see doctor or dentist or both idk . I’m sorry, this is going to sound so gross. i have a severly sore throat swollen toncills that were on one side impacted with solid off white chunky stuff that i had to prod out of one side coughing , gagging , spitting and coughing small amounts of clear mucus accompanied by the white stuff . I sort of had to cuz when I pushed a little checking why toncill so sore all this gross stuff was coming out from holes in toncils and in turns was also blowing my nose in diffent increments like they were each stuck and each had to budge more for the other to in turn . This was Almost two hours straight. i just noticed a swollen lump on my gums on the same side of my mouth earlier in the week and what looks like a problem near it with soreness of tooth and gum where two teeth seemed to have gotten very tight together. Hurts in between . Might be s problem there and I think I might have a cavity on the other side of mouth I had just notic d thee other day as well . and i have a flight accross the country in the am from la to XXXXXXX . I’m a little worried if it’s going to cause me problems in the air since my throat hurts so badly and swollen glads and I can feel it in my head and my ears and nose. Is it safe to fly in that kind of condition? I’m so tired and that all put me behind schedule and I am afraid to sleep by now cuz the flights early but if it’s not safe then I gotta call them now and see if anyone will work with me on the situation without costing the arm and leg I don’t have extras of . What do u think I should do?

Probably tonsillitis, I recommend to rest and post point the flight.

Hello dear and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms seem to be related to tonsillitis which is an inflammation of the tonsils.

The presence of white patches and swollen glands can be related to a bacterial infection.

I would suggest you doing a strep throat test to confirm the diagnosis.

Meanwhile, I recommend using anti inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day.

I suggest using throat sprays for local application.

If the diagnosis is confirmed I recommend taking prescription antibiotics.

I suggest using Augmentin 625 mg twice a day for five to seven days.

I would recommend to rest and not fly in this condition.

I suggest to post point the flight when you will feel better.

I recommend to drink liquids and eat healthy.
