Question : Hi, for about 6-8 months now ive had really thick mucus in my throat that causes me to constantly clear my throat. Like i would say almost every minute, its that bad. the only thing i can think of is lpr but i have taken omeprazole for going on 3 months now. Also i am 20 years old that moderately drinks & used to smoke marijuana but don’t anymore. I had a problem with my lung about 6 months ago where it hurt to breathe, i went to the doctor and got an x ray done and they said everything looked fine. i do sometimes have smaller pains in my side where it seems my lung is but the mucus gets really thick after eating or drinking. I dont drink pop, only water
Brief Answer:
Chronic laryngitis is possible.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I think you are having chronic laryngitis or allergic laryngitis because the symptoms of cough, feeling of foreign body , constant need to clean throat , hoarseness voice suggest this.
I think the problem may be related to laringo -pharyngeal reflux also. Smoking doesn't help the situation.
You can try to breathe moist air , use losenges to keep throat wet, drink fluids and try to keep voice at rest as much as possible.
Using antihistamines such citerizine can be helpful.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Okay, so would you suggest me going to my family doctor and getting diagnosed or just trying to take citerizine? Does that typically heal it pretty fast?
Brief Answer:
Take citerizine.
Detailed Answer:
HELLO dear and thank you for asking again.
If you can find citerizine without going to GP you can try it. If you feel that issue still continues after citerizine visit your GP.

Taking count that you also used citerizine with no results then you can visit an ENT doctor to perform laringoscopy to check larynx mucosal lining.
