Hi, From Last 2-3 Weeks When I Am Scraping My

Question: Hi, from last 2-3 weeks when I am scraping my tongue in the morning, I notice little blood on the scraper. This is happening when I I am scraping the right side of the tongue(middle to back). When I place my finger on the right side of the tongue few tiny bumps which are little tender, can be felt. But there is no bleeding if I touch them. What can be the cause and what should I do? I am 32 years male. I smoke and drink beer as well.

Thank you in advance.

Brief Answer:
Inflammation of the papillae, nutritional deficiency

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
Bleeding from the tongue and lump over the tongue can be because of the inflammation of the papillae over the tongue. Nothing to be panic, consult an oral physician and get it evaluated. Do not apply too much pressure over the tongue while cleaning. The inflammation can be because of the nutritional deficiency or because of any irritation to the Papillae like smoking.
Kindly upload the images of the tongue so that I can tell you the exact diagnosis.
I hope I have answered your query. if you have any queries reply me back.
Take care.

Thank you doctor for your response.

Actually my problem is on the lateral edge of my tongue on the right side. I have attached 4 images. Image 1,2 and 3 are showing my region of concern. The encircled regions bleed when I move the tongue-scraper over this area .

I have also attached another image(4.jpg) of the inside of my mouth. I am scared to see two red bumps on the back of my throat wall. recently I have been experiencing on and off sore throat, mild right ear pain and little discomfort while swallowing. I was thinking of them as the result of very hot and humid weather in XXXXXXX where I reside. What are these red bumps and should I be worried about them?

Is there any medicine that you can prescribe as well for my problems?

Thanks and regards.

Brief Answer:
Foliate papilitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, consult ENT surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your reply. I have gone through your uploaded images. As per the images, it looks like foliate papilitis. The redness over the back of the tongue is because of the inflamed tonsils (tonsillitis)and pharyngeal mucosa (pharyngitis). You need to consult an ENT surgeon and get it evaluated. As per the direction by Medical council of XXXXXXX we are not suppose to prescribe the medicines online. So you need to get a prescription by consulting an ENT surgeon. Mean while you can do warm saline gargling. Do not scrape that area for another 5 days.
I hope I have answered your query.

Thank you doctor for your response.

I have stopped scraping that area and no bleeding since then. But I am terrified whether these foliate papilitis can be cancer or not. According to internet this lateral edge of tongue is high risk zone for tongue cancer, especially for those who smoke.

Can you please tell me, looking at the images whether there is any potential cancer or not? I am very much worried about it.

Also I sometimes feel mild right sided ear pain and throat discomfort. Sometimes I am experiencing right throat discomfort when talking at a stretch.

Are these things interconnected?

Just for information I stay at XXXXXXX which is very hot and humid and I regularly use air cooler.

Since it is not possible to prescribe medicine over internet can you suggest some home remedies/supplement/diet apart from saline water?

Brief Answer:
Not a cancerous lesion, antibiotics, ENT surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your reply.
It is not a cancerous lesion. Nothing to be panic, you can stop the habit of smoking and drinking. Lateral border of the tongue is commonly affected site but the lesion on your tongue is not looking like cancerous lesion. If it increases in size or develops into an ulcer then you need to worry. Right now nothing to worry.
The pain in the ear can be because of the throat infection. The irritation in the throat can be because of the bacterial infection. You need to take a course of antibiotics by consulting an ENT surgeon or An oral physician. There are no home remedies to cure this infection.
I hope I have answered your query. Take care
