Question: Hi i am 44 years of age I have regular periods. I am currently trying to conceive i know my age is against me. The problem is my cycle this time was 33 days. It is usually a 25 to 28 day cycle. I usually bleed for 5 days but today is 8 days and I am still bleeding (not heavy) use approx 2-3 towels a day. Does this mean I don't ovulate and do I need to see my GP.

Hello dear and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Longer cycle can be an indication that you are not ovulating.
So,based on the fact that you are trying to conceive, I recommend to do some examinations for further evaluation.
I suggest to do:

Brief Answer:
The bleeding will probably relieve on it's own.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,

Yes the bleeding will probably stop on it's own, you should not be worried.
To relieve the bleeding you can use anti inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen.
If the bleeding will continue, you should try oral progesterone, which is taken on prescription.

Take care,

You can ovulate in the future.

Hi again dear,

Of course, you can ovulate in the other months.
