Hi I Am Currently Switching Medications From Viibryd 15 Mg
Question: Hi i am currently switching medications from Viibryd 15 mg to Zoloft. My doctor gave me a script for 50 mg but did not tell me about how to transition. Please let me know. Should I start with the 50? Or 25 and if 25 for how long until I go to 50? Viibryd worked very well for me but unfortunately too many GI problems and also we want to get pregnant and I hear its less studied for that. Please let me know plan for least side effects. Thanks!

Viibryd helps to improve serotonergic neurotransmission. Zoloft works in similar manner but the mechanism of action is different. The dose of 15 mg is not a high dose and you can stop the drug from first day only.
Instead of Viibryd dose you can take 25 mg Zoloft. Starting with low dose will minimise the first dose side effects. In around 7-10 days you can increase the dose of Zoloft to 50 mg and this should work for you. If needed the dose can be increased further to 75 or 100 mg.
Zoloft has been studied in pregnant ladies too and the drug is considered as safest antidepressant in pregnancy. Though the drug falls in category C.

Viibryd acts as serotonergic receptor inhibitor similar to Zoloft which is SSRI, but at molecular levels the drug acts on difference receptors.
In short both drugs increase serotonergic neurotransmission but the mechanism is different. You can stop Viibryd completely and start with Zoloft. Zoloft will check any withdrawal symptoms.
