Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service,
I carefully read your query and understand your concern.
Working 12 hours daily, especially at night, may affect the energy level of the patients. On the other hand, it is important to rule out certain conditions first. Fatigue is a very general symptom and many conditions may cause it, ranging from anemia, thyroid problems, immune conditions (if you have joint pains as well), to heart and lung diseases, tumors and metabolic diseases (diabetes, liver and kidney problems).
It is not mentioned for how long are you feeling fatigued but if the CBC was done before you started to feel fatigued it may be advisable to repeat it again and few other tests:
- CBC, ERS
- TSH and FT4 (to check the thyroid function as thyroid may play a role in tiredness)
- a basic metabolic profile such as ALT, AST, bilirubin (for the liver), creatinine and electrolytes (for the kidney function), fasting glucose and lipids are routinely done as well
- your doctor will need to perform a thorough physical examination, including auscultation of your heart and lungs and also checking for lymph nodes, etc.
- routine screening checks such as breast exam and pap smear may be ordered as well
After a thorough physical examination and the blood tests mentioned above, the doctor will have an idea if there is a certain condition causing you to be fatigued and which are further steps in management.
I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj
