Hi There! I Ended Up In The ER Two Nights

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Oct 2018
Question: Hi there! I ended up in the ER two nights ago due to elevated heart rate, shallow breathing, and tingling all over my body. I've been stressed about some ongoing health issues and they determined it was likely due to a panic/anxiety attack. I am feeling a bit calmer today (they gave me a Xanax inthe ER that night and I slept well) but still experiencing the body tingling in hands/legs/face/head. How long can it take for this tingling symptom to go away? What can I do to help improve?

Brief Answer:
This is probably due to anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for using ask a doctor service

Sudden onset tingling, rapid heart rate, difficult breathing etc are seen commonly in anxiety. You’ve mentioned that you were stressed due to some health issue so this is the reason they made diagnosis of panic.

Now you have tingling in body but you are relaxed. This tingling is also part of anxiety and will take some time to get settled. This will go by own in less than a week.

If you have prescription then you can take Xanax on sos basis which will reduce the symptoms. Relaxation exercises, breathing exercise can help to control the symptoms. You can hold the breath after deep inspiration and then hold till count of 8 and then release slowly. Follow this for two minutes and do this 8-10 times of the day. This will reduce the anxiety.

If anxiety persists then visit a psychiatrist for help.

Thanks

I hope this helps but if you have more to ask then you are welcome.
