                                            Question : Hi there,
I have been experiencing mild cramp-like discomfort in my lower abdomen for the last 5-6 days, and it hasn't gone away, but not getting a lot worse. It kind of feels like period cramps, but not related as I had my period already. I've experienced some tightness in my lower back too. My first thought is that it may be a bladder infection, or chlamydia. I usually urinate frequently so it's difficult to tell if I am urinating more than usual. Sometimes the urine is cloudy, but never bloody. I have doxycycline, but not sure if I should take them.

                                    Brief Answer:
Possible kidney stones.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
Your symptoms seems like you are having pain related to kidney stones.
I think you should do an urine analysis and an ultrasound to comfirm diagnosis.
The ultrasound can also determine the measurements of stones and quantity.

I don't recommend you to take doxocycline.
I recommend you to drink lots of fluids and water.
Also taking spasmolytics such buscopan or spasmex can help with pain and can help stones to pass.
Also you can take ibuprofen for pain or can even use cocodamol for pain.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

                                    Hello,
Thanks for your response. I'm still unsure if I'm locating the pain correctly. Sometimes it feels like my bladder but then it feels like it could be my uterus and ovaries. Is there any advice on how to differentiate this?
Sometimes the pain comes on stronger and more sharp, and I even feel some cramping in the anus.
although I definitely feel some pain either side of low back now. But still no pain with urination.
How long does it usually take for kidney stones to pass? Will the pain get progressively worse over days or weeks?
I should mention also that I experienced a few hours ago some chills but they did not last long... is there a risk of infection with kidney stones?
Thanks for your advice, XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
OK, I still think this signs and symptoms look like kidney stones.
The only way to defecation is ultrasound.
There is no certain time limit for kidney stones to pass. It depends on measures.
The pain tends to become stronger.
Of course there is a chance of infection since stones damage mucosal linning of ureters and bladder.
