Question : Hi what are natural ways to lower hemaglobin and RBC if my levels are too high? Aside from giving blood. I am currently on testosterone replacement therapy and just bought a cpap machine for my sleep apnea and I think that is the reason my hemaglobin went up due to not getting enough oxygen when sleeping. If I add an oxygen concentrator to my cpap machine will it lower the rate of my body to produce RBC?

                                    Brief Answer:
Blood letting is the only way to reduce hemoglobin
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
High hemoglobin is seen in condition called polycythemia vera.
Polycythemia vera is not related to oxygen levels in blood, instead it is a genetic disorder caused by mutation of particular gene.
Blood letting or bleeding is the only means to reduce hemoglobin levels.
There are medications to treat / manage the side effects of high hemoglobin levels.
A CPAP machine will help to improve your sleep apnea, however, it is not likely to improve hemoglobin levels.
In case you have more queries, I will be glad to answer.
Thanks and take care

                                    Brief Answer:
Drugs will be prescribed if any complication develops
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
The medications depend on the complication of high hemoglobin.
The drugs cannot be generalized for all patients.
It depends on the complication, however, if managed properly, the complications may not develop al all.
