Question : Hi...I have been told by my gyno that I tested positive for Group B Strep...I have been on two rounds of antibiotics and now, after 3 weeks I feel the symptoms returning...this time with a lesion type sore on my vaginia. It is not a VD sore, as I don't have any VD...so I was wondering if Group B Strep can cause irritation or sores down there too.?

Brief Answer:
Less likely to be due to Strep B.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Strep B infection usually does not cause a sore near vagina. It can cause skin infections but open sores are rare. The lesion is best if examined and tested to know the exact cause.
Do get a culture sensitivity done and find the antibiotic best suited for you.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Thank you for your answer. I forgot to mention in my above question that I had group B strep and a yeast infection along with it. I am 63 and have never had the Strep B like this before, at least not the symptoms. But I am wondering if the small lesion could be due to the yeast infection returning. It is very itchy and I have been treating it with Monostat cream. I read that Group B Strep can be very dangerous to older adults. Is this true, and also can I get a small sore from a yeast infection?

PS... I have been tested for VD and all are negative. I have been married for 30 years and my husband and I are not carriers of any type of VD as we have been tested.

Brief Answer:
It can still cause a small sore if severe.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.

Yeast infection if severe can cause a small sore but a superadded Strep B infection can also happen. This can be determined only after a swab culture sensitivity analysis.

Hope my answer is helpful.
Do accept my answer in case there are no further queries.
Regards.
