Brief Answer:
ORS is the mainstay of treatment

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. Most often children suffer from viral infections which make them pass loose watery stools. The cause does not need to be treated and is self limiting. It is a very bad practice to give antibiotics like Norflox in such cases and I would insist you to refrain from it unless the stool is blood stained. However, the lost water and salts need to be replenished. ORS (oral rehydration solution) is the mainstay of treatment and needs to be given. A home based alternative would be to mix six (6) level teaspoons of Sugar, Half (1/2) level teaspoon of Salt, One Litre of clean drinking water i.e. 5 cupfuls (each cup about 200 ml.) and to give it sip by sip. If the child is otherwise active and playful you need not worry.

Also give curd or yogurt since it contains plenty of beneficial bacteria and should help. Tomorrow you can fetch and give zinc supplements like Zinconia Syr 10 ml once daily for the next 10 days. You need not worry. It should gradually return back to normal.

Feel free to write back.

thanks for a detailed and informative advice.

What all precautions we should take?

What all we should give for eating? Can milk be given?

What are the emergency symptoms?

What all physical activities can be undertaken?

Brief Answer:
No specific restrictions except for avoidance of milk

Detailed Answer:
Proper hand hygiene is the main precaution to maintain. She can take anything that she wants to eat. Just avoid milk for the time being. The thing to look out for is reduction in urine frequency. If that happens, the fluid intake needs to be increased. She can otherwise do any physical activity that she deems herself capable of doing.
