How Are Lytic Lesions Of The Hip Treated?

Question: How are Lytic Lesions of the hip treated?A CT scan in the ER showed "there is an expansile lytic lesion encompassing most of the L4 vertebral body extending towards the right pedicle. A rounded lytic lesion, measuring18 mm is seen in the right superior acetaabulum."

I was successfully treated for Prostate Cancer by proton radiation at Loma XXXXXXX University Medical Center in May 2011. Perhaps the prostate cancer has metastasized into the bone.

I have significant pain in the right hip area.

How will these lytic lesions be treated, presuming they are cancerous?

Brief Answer:
Check with your ortho/oncologist

Detailed Answer:
Since you are a known case of prostate cancer, these lesions must be considered as metastatic (spread of cancer) disease.

Check with your medical / radiation oncologist. This may require administration of hormone therapy or chemotherapy. It may also require local radiation. The therapy depends on what you had received earlier, the current disease status, age and general condition.

You may require an Orthopaedic consult if surgery is required.

I could help you better, if you could upload the CT scan report and the previous reports of your treatment.
