How Can OCD Manifesting As A Fear Of Cats, Dogs And Rabies Be Treated?

Question: My name is Axxxx and I am writing this email in the hope that I might get some respite from OCD that has virtually destroyed my peace of mind. I am 33 years old and have been suffering from OCD for at least 20 odd years. Previously, I didn't know that I was having OCD but after reading quite a bit about it, I came to this conclusion.

Now, here is my problem. My OCD is mixed with my fear of dogs and anything that can transmit Rabies. This has become a heady mix of deadly cocktail for my brain. Wherever I go, I feel I have been scratched by dogs. I turn around while walking to see if I have been bitten by dogs or cats, etc.

This has now started to affect my family life. I have a two-years old son. Whenever I take him out, I think that I have exposed him to dogs or cats and he will get rabies. I constantly checks his body for any bite or scratch marks. I am afraid to be alone with him as I fear that I might harm him in anyways. I randomly go and take full dose of anti-rabies injections as I think I am bitten by dogs. In short, I have gone insane.

I am writing this email to you as my last resort. I don't know what to do. Please help me. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Brief Answer:

OCD is treatable

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The most important thing about OCD is that it is treatable. With the right set of medications, most individuals can recover in a range of 60 to 80% and few of lucky can get complete relief from these absurd thoughts.

I am not sure whether you are under treatment but in case this has not been started I will request you to not to delay seeking help from a psychiatrist in your city.

I do not find any rationale for suffering once there are ample options available for treatment.

I also feel that there is nothing called a last resort. You need to have an optimistic attitude and right action to deliver a positive impact on your life.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
