Question : Greetings. I am again sending you pictures of my inner thigh. I visited the dermatologist yesterday who injected an anti inflammatory and considers it a feruncle or abscess. It's kind of shiny and doesn't hurt unless I rub it when walking. Does this round pinkish shiny thing look like it will go away without being cut off by the dermatologist?? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Management of Furuncle

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic,

I have gone through your query and the attached pictures.

The lesion seen in the picture is mostly a furuncle, which is the infection of hair follicles.
In your case, the furuncle is small and does not require incision and drainage.
It will go away on its own in 2-3 weeks.

Management of furuncle is detailed below--
-Apply warm compress at least 4 times daily
-Clean the area with disinfectant soap and water
-Keep the area dry
-Since it is on your inner thigh, you can apply a band-aid to reduce friction
-Apply antibiotic ointment like Mupirocin ointment
-Do not squeeze/pop the furuncle
-Wear loose clothing to keep the area aerated

If you notice that the furuncle is not going away in 3 weeks or increasing in size, please follow up with your primary care provider. You will need oral antibiotics and drainage of the furuncle.

Hope this answers your question
