How Can A Pus-infected Sprained Ankle Be Treated?

default
Posted on Tue, 25 Apr 2023
Question: My 45 year old son sprained left ankle. No fall incurred, just walking up the steps, at the top he experienced pain and then swelling. In the first days, swelling got worse, bruising then black. To the hospital, treatment over the last days was several attempts to open and clean out. He is on antibotics, again today, pus is still present and again tonight more surgery to rid him of infection. Right ankle is now involved. There is Mersa present. What should recovery do at this point ?

Brief Answer:

Pus culture and sensitivity needed.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The presence of XXXXXXX pus suggests that the infection is not yet controlled with the given antibiotics.

A pus culture and sensitivity test are needed to find the type of organism and antibiotic bets for him.

MRI scan of the involved foot and a few investigations like blood glucose ESR etc are also needed to find out other factors responsible for the infection.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
