Question : Something minor but irratating.
A thorn has been embedded in my thumb for six months. My G.P. tells me best to leave it. Why? also could it remain there for a long time?

*Any thorn can remain for indefinite long time in body.
*Removal of thorn puts an end to any future problems related to it.
- can undergo high resolution ultrasound for confirming its presence.
- removal includes day care procedure can be performed under local
anaesthesia by a Consultant Surgeon , no need to be hospitalised .
*Many G.P. advise to keep it as such if it is not bothersome , not painful , not
affecting any day to day activities.
But in that case one has to be ready for any time in future there may be
- infection - pain - difficulty in movements .
