Brief Answer:
You may find it safe to wait and see.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The biggest problem relating to an intraabdominal mesh (which, I assume is in place owing to a previous hernia) is a recurrence of the hernia. If you had the mesh placed during open surgery - as opposed to laparoscopic surgery - there is also a potential problem of infection. This is a relatively early complication which is unlikely, if you have had your mesh for years.

If the pain you experience allows you to eat and move, and provided you have bowel movements and no fever, I would find it safe to wait and see for a while. If you do not have any other medical conditions or previous ulcer disease, I recommend aspirin and NSAID as pain killers.
