Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The following suggestions are for you from my end -
1. Often the mother or the relatives feel that the breast milk is not enough, as the child may cry due to various other reasons.
If the pediatrician assures you that the baby is doing fine, and growing well, do not think that the milk supply is not adequate.
2. Take a glass of milk 15 minutes before feeding your child.
3. Adequate fluid intake is a must. At least 3 liters of fluid in summers should be consumed by you.
4. Take lots of methi, fenugreek, hing, suva (dill), jeera.
5. Feed on the alternate breast every 1.5 hours in summer, don't feed for more than 20 - 25 minutes at a time.
6. Try Shatavarex powder and capsules (ayurvedic) for increased breast milk supply.
7. You may try manual pumping or electric breast pump. Before pumping, massage the breast from outside to inward with hot cloth/hot water bag.
8. Ensure nutritious, high protein diet, and proper rest when possible.
9. Avoid stressful situations.
10. If all else fails, request your obstetrician for a prescription for Perinorm tablets, they would increase breast milk, but use them as a last resort.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards,
Dr. Aarti Abraham, OBGYN
