How Can Cough Be Cured While On Loratidine?

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Apr 2017
Question: I have had coughing at night only with clear phlegm that I need to spit out several times during the night. I've tried PPI's, TUMS, Prilosec, Carafate, nasal saline sprays, humidifier in the bedroom, etc. I begin coughing about 3 hours after going to sleep and it never stops all night. I am okay after about an hour after getting up in the morning. I drink at least 64 ounces of water a day. I had a test where they put a tube down my nose and looked into my throat. They found some hyperplasia and did a biopsy which was negative. This was about 4 months ago. I am desperate and don't know what to do now. I take loratidine every day. Help, please.

Brief Answer:
Probably alergic asthma;

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking in HCM.
I can understand your concern.
According to the history you mainly have cough only during the night.
It might be allergic reaction that should be diagnosed with the below mentioned exams:
-Prick test
- pneumoalergens
-Spirometry test
-Specific IgE
-ECG
-chest X ray
It is possible that it may be an allergic asthma and your doctor after having the above results will probably prescribe corticosteroid inhalers plus bronchodilatator inhalers ( ventolin).
After the treatment you will see improvement within a few days.
Feel free to ask me at any time if you have further questions.
Best wishes,
Dr.Jolanda

Thank you very much, Dr. Jinkolla.

I have had ECG, CXR and PFT's, as I now recall. I will proceed with the recommended tests that I haven't had yet.

Again, thank you so much.
