Question : Hello Doctor, I want your opinion about my 4.5 year old son. It's about his vomitting.  1. December he had an episode of vomitting, he would vomit once or twice a day after meals, not everyday but lasted for 4 - 5 days. 2. February, same thing but for 2 days. 3 vomits in total. 3. Again now on Saturday, yesterday and today. Today he had one big vomit after eating something in school and after coming home 2 small vomit (not even a spoonful). He was hungry and asked for food after vomit. He doesnt have fever and is active.  Is there a concern? Is this common? Any medicine to help?

                                    Brief Answer:
Looks like a common variant or CVS
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
There are 2 possibilities here -
1. A normal variant which you need not worries at all. Just giving ondansetron at 5ml thrice a day if there's vomiting will do.
2. Cyclical vomiting which requires evaluation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care

                                    Brief Answer:
Explanation on cyclical vomiting syndrome
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
1. Normal variant means - that it could be normal occasional vomiting without any clear significance. It happens all the time in kids of this age.
2. Cyclical vomiting syndrome is a type of recurrent vomiting which occurs at intervals and every time it occurs, the kid will have only vomiting and will require hospitalization because of dehydration and will get better with only intravenous fluids and intravenous anti-vomiting medications.
There will not be any specific reason which could be found out for it and the kids will come out of the cyclical vomiting syndrome as the age progresses and they grow up.
Hope I have answered your query.
