Hello Mr XXXXXXX

Thanks for your query.

Gingivitis is the inflammation of the gums and is caused by bacterial infection of gums.

There could also be other causes like viral or fungal infections, malnutrition, certain medications, plaque formation etc. Although all of us have some amount of plaque but only few get it.

The treatment for gingivitis would include:

1.     Antibiotics to treat the infection.

2.     Multivitamins and minerals to cover the nutritional deficiency.

3.     Regular brushing with a fluoride containing toothpaste will slow disease progression and may help resolution.

4.     Daily flossing in addition to brushing will reduce plaque and bacterial counts.

5.     Rinsing with Chlorhexidine or other solutions also helps.

The best person for you to consult would be a Dentist. He/she would be able to guide you further in the management of your problem.

Hope this answer is helpful.

Take care.
Thanks
