Posted on Tue, 12 Sep 2017
Question: I am a 82 year old male. I have been having an intermittent pain on some days ( at any time of the day) in both my legs for the last one year. The pain is mainly in calf region. There is no discoloration and no part is swollen. The pain aggravates if I walk or stand for long period as I am an lawyer by profession. Once triggered it does not subside for hours even if I lie flat on the bed. If I try to stretch my leg I get a muscle catch. I have undergone angioplasty in 2014. I have no vices, spiritual and have an overall good health. Currently I am not taking any medication for this pain except the ones prescribed by my doctors post my surgery. These are tab Evion 400 ; Ecosprin and TelvasH40

Brief Answer:
Tests are necessary to achieve a correct diagnosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Symptoms you describe may be caused by conditions such inadequate blood supply to the legs ( peripheral arteritis for example ), lumbar spinal cord stenosis, or metabolic issues ( such electrolytes imbalance, thyroid gland dysfunctional, etc.).

Diagnostic tests such Doppler ultrasound of your legs vessels, MRI of the lumbosacral spine and blood tests about electrolytes levels, thyroid gland function, etc. take an important role in achieving a correct diagnosis in your case.

Discuss with your Doctor about getting evaluated further with above mentioned tests.

Treatment depends upon a correct diagnosis.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.

Brief Answer:
More than one condition is contributing in your symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

I examined with diligence the tests results you uploaded.

Regarding to tests results seems to be more than one condition that is causing your symptoms.

In my opinion, besides compression of nerves at the lumbar spine level by degerative changes of your spine and lysthesis, low vitamin B12, D, together with kidneys dysfunction, and moderately high blood glucose and uric acid levels, are contributing to your symptoms.

So, as a first step, it is necessary to correct these findings by using NSAID drugs and physical therapy for the degerative spine disease, vitamin D and B12 supplements, treatment of high glucose levels, treatment about kidneys dysfunction.

Other abnormal findings such high cholesterol, etc. should be addressed too.

Discuss with your Doctor about further steps in treatment.

Hope I helped you.

Kind regards.
