Question: Hello doctor.. post pregnancy for the past six months I have been holding alot of water weight in my body. I exercise everyday but my weight is not changing. Is there any way I can bring water retention down? Any supplements that I might be deficient in?

Brief Answer:
Clarify your gender?

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

At the outset, I would like you to confirm the gender of this patient. Since it refers to post pregnancy I assume this is about a female; but gender specified above is a male. Please clarify.

Weight changes are usually related to hormonal changes, inappropriate diet and lack of exercise. Correcting these will essentially alter the weight. To discuss further, I look forward to clarifications from your end.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
Weight will fall with proper exercise after 6 months post pregnancy...

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Weight depends on the balance between calorie intake and calorie burn through exercise. It would be better if you can specify what type of exercise you do. Cardio exercise in the form of brisk walking/jogging/treadmill is essential along with another exercise. I will also recommend you discuss your daily diet with a nutritionist who can evaluate calorie consumed and cut calories if required.

In addition to these, I also suggest rechecking thyroid hormone status. Difficulty in losing weight is strongly associated with inadequate thyroid hormone levels. Get your TSH level checked and adjust thyroid medications accordingly.

Hope I have answered your questions.
