Brief Answer:
Different possible causes

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

There are different possible causes of your eye pain but severe pain in the eye needs to be assessed.

Though you may not see any obvious scratches, it is sometimes possible to have an abrasion or cut on the eye and it is not clearly visible. A XXXXXXX such as Fluorescein sometimes needs to be used to identify scratches that are no clearly visible.

There are different aspects of the eye some of these -the uvea, conjunctiva, cornea, iris. Infection, trauma or inflammation of any of these areas can cause redness and pain.

Conditions of the eye unfortunately cannot be diagnosed without seeing the eye. It would be best to see your doctor as soon as possible.

I hope this helps.
