Brief Answer:
As per my opinion treatment should be continued

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

Schizophrenia is a mental illness that runs in chronic course and it is a continuous illness. You are symptoms free now but have history of 3 episodes in last 8 years.

As per my opinion stopping the medicines completely would not be a good idea. This may result in relapse of symptoms and you will have to take more medicines then. So even if you are symptoms free still continue to take medicines.

You can discuss with your psychiatrist to reduce the doses of drugs which would be beneficial to you.

Thanks, please don't hesitate to ask again for more doubts.

Thanks doctor.Third time I suffered schizophrenia effect in may 2011. I was in XXXXXXX
Then I consulted a doctor there. After some initial treatment he prescribed AMIVAL 200 mg 2 times a day. Then I came back XXXXXXX october 2011. Since then I am in XXXXXXX I was taking medicine regulary. In may 2013 I consulted a doctor in XXXXXXX he gave some different medicine for 15 to 20 days and said to stop taking medicine. But I again continued to take AMIVAL 200 mg 2 times a day. amival is not available in XXXXXXX for sometime now I am taking AMISANT 200 mg 2 times a day.
in your opinion what amount of medicine should i take now ?? I am normal for last 3 years. Should I change medicine?? Please suggest .

Brief Answer:
As per my opinion even if you are stable don't stop medicine

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

In my opinion as you had last episode 4 years back and you are symptom free so you can discuss with your psychiatrist to reduce the dose of Amisulpiride, but I don't think that complete stoppage of doses of drug is a good idea.

I have not seen you personally so I cant comment on your drug therapy with certainty, but if you can provide details of your symptoms since beginning and drug therapy then I can comment with more confidence.

Amival and Amisant both are same drugs. No need to change the medicine but you can ask for reduction of doses of drug.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Doses can be reduced gradually as per my opinion

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for providing details in form of reports and history

Your clinical history points towards any psychotic illness especially Schizophrenia like ideas that some one is conspiring against you, thought broadcasting, abnormal thoughts that you have become famous or other bad thoughts, hearing voices etc. But these symptoms occurred in episodes which is really against Schizophrenia though I cant say this with certainty.

In your first episode you got improvement without any medicines, and in second episode also you got improvement without episodes while in third episode you needed medicines and improved in about 3-4 months. During this illness you never had any effects on your education and you were able to finish your Btech and MBA. These are positive prognostic features for your illness.

Few thing I would like to know...

If you are doing any job or working presently? One more thing I would need if you are having any symptoms like suspiciousness in your day to day routine? If you are married or in relation with any girl? If you have good relation and good rapport with your parents? Have you have any problems in doing any work in day to day activities?

Still as you are better since last 4 years and are stable so as per my opinion the doses can be reduced but these doses should be reduced gradually like 300 mg Amisulpiride for next 3 months and then further reduction of doses to 200 mg for next 3 months and then 100 mg followed by complete stoppage of drug. The reduction of doses in this manner will reduce any risk of relapse of symptoms. Take all of your drugs with proper prescription only.

No need to change the medicines.

Thanks.
