Question : having hunger pangs that are relieved by food but reoccur. Was told could be peptic ulcer. On day 4 of Prilosec, waiting for Dr. appointment. Would Gaviscon or Pepsid AC be beneficial with the Prilosec?
Brief Answer:
Yes better results could be achieved.
Detailed Answer:
Helo,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
I am a Gastroenterologist and would be answering your query.
As per your query-
Gaviscon or Pepsid AC works by reducing the amount of acid secreted by the stomach. On the other hand Prilosec is also a proton pump ihibitor and inhibts the parietal cell which secretes acid in stomach. So though mechanism of action of both are different yet they are given for the same thing hence yes Taking antacid along with Prilosec would have a better effect.
Sucralfate would also help you and should be considered.
Hope i answered your query well.
Wish you a early and fast recovery.
Thanks.
