Question : hello doctor
this is namarata from XXXXXXX UK. Today i had gone for my general teeth cleaning to a local dentist ( actually hygenist over here) . i had already metioned about my phobia and fear to them and they did understand . today when i went the dentist called me inside and after i was seated she put on her gloves ( but i dont remember her taking it from the gloves box but still the instruemnst were puched and she opend it front of me and cleaned the lower front section of teeth .. she then went and opened some draw and pulled out a mirror and then took out a new brand of tooth brush and showed me how to brush and floss properly .( my issue was she was wearing the gloves at that time and then she touched my lips ) is it fine ? .... that touch was just for a maximum of three minutes not more than that... ( but still is it ok ) .... also since after coming from the clinic the left side of lower lip seems swollen like ( i dont know whether its normal or am i overthinking) .... i have attached few pics can you please let me know what is this. few questions though
1) the dentist touching the draws with the gloves on and then touching my lips ( the touching lasted only for a maximum of three minutes just to show me how to brush technique not for any treatment)
2) the place where my treatment took place is a separate room from the clinic so except from the patients and the dentist and nurse no one can go inside and also only the dentist and that nurse would have touched that draws and surface ....i also saw two sanitizer gels in that room only ...but still is it ok ....
3) i feel like the left side lower lip is swollen i dont know why if it is so ... the cleaning took place yesterday evening .lasted only 20 minutes.( they used a numbing gel on the gums called oraquix ( could it be because of that ) .... the numbness lasted for some 30 minutes...

Brief Answer:
Slight swelling visible, nothing to be done
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your complaints and reviewed the attached photographs.
Its ok for the dentist to touch the drawers with gloves on and then touching your teeth.
Even the room where your treatment took place seems to be fine.
I can appreciate very slight swelling of the lower lip.
It could be probably related to the procedure technique or local anesthetic cream.
Nothing needs to be done as it will disappear on its own in a few days.
Don’t take stress and relax as everything went fine.
I hope to have answered your queries and would be happy to answer any more questions.
Regards
Dr. Asmeet

Hello doctor
The swelling which you can see is it more towards the left side right? .... I am so scared of herpes .... I am attaching new pics right now can you please tell me how it is
I have few questions though
1) in the pics that I have attached right now the lower lip vermillion border looks in even ( that is the right side border is thicker than the left side ) could this be a reason why the lower lip left side looks little swollen ?
2) also the swelling do you think that it is more in the area below the lip border ( more than the left side lower lip itself or vermillion border)
3) it looks more that the swelling is towards the skin below the left side lower lips right? Please correct me if I am wrong .
4) can I apply hydrocortisone cream for reducing the swelling can I do anything ?
5) the dentist says that it was merely any treatment for swelling to take place and it’s been more than 24 hours since the treatment ,,, please help me doctor I am so scared

Brief Answer:
Details below
Detailed Answer:
I have reviewed the newly attached photographs.
Though there is slight swelling on the lower lip but it is not herpes.
Yes slight uneveness might be the cause of swelling.
I don't think the swelling is more below the lower lip border or on the skin below the lower lip.
It seems that the left lower lip is slightly swollen.
Yes you can apply hydrocortisone cream for reducing the swelling.
Don't worry as sometimes swelling takes time to reduce.
It should reduce within 3-4 days.
