Question: I have a hearing loss in the left ear with feeling of pressure.
There is no pain.
I had a sore throat two weeks ago in the area of the left tonsil.
I had it checked and it was negative for strep both with a quick and a culture test.
I can’t clear pressure with a yawn or swallowing

Brief Answer:
Usually, temporary hearing loss follows throat infection

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

There can be temporary hearing loss following throat infection. This can be due to building of fluid near the ear canal or near drum, tube or in the middle ear cavity. Sooner this fluid is reabsorbed by the lining of the middle ear giving way to proper transmission of sounds.

Suppose if the loss does not relieve in a week you should consult your doctor.

Meantime antihistamines like Zyrtec or Allegra are used to absorb the fluid quickly.

Please do not poke into the ear canal.

Hope this helps.
