If an area of the cranium is removed for brain surgery, or to release pressure, or if it an area is damaged from trauma, there are prosthetics that can be used to replace this portion, such as plates that are fitted. If that isn't possible, for various reasons, a mesh is used. But a cream would not work, because the brain is soft and needs something firm to protect it.
