Brief Answer:
Needs to be seen

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

He should see an ENT doctor for an assessment. Ringing in the ear, tinnitus has different possible causes, a viral infection is one cause but in most persons, the symptom resolves soon after the other viral symptoms improve.

Some of the other causes of tinnitus include-
(1) ear infection,
(2) excess wax in the ear,
(3) a mass affecting the ear (acoustic neuroma),
(4) nerve injury,
(5) thyroid disease,
(6) abnormality with one of the arteries or veins related to the ear.

It would be best for him to be seen since it has been ongoing for 2 months.

Hope I have answered your query.
