Question : How does Depo Provera in men reduce sexual arousal? What chemicals are blocked in men by depo Provera. Does depo provera block dopamine too? I took depo Provera intramuscular injection subcutaneously. Does it matter? It was 150ml. How long will it last?
I have been taking androcur 100mg daily also but still its not 100% helping in shutting down sexual arousal. I have tried degarelix injection also but still not 100% satisfied. Is there any medication that can increase prolactin without side effects? Will taking Depo Provera and androcur achieve what I am looking for? I have tried antinausea meds and Risperdal to reduce dopamine also but 100% happy with bad side effects. Help its critical. I am 36 male and I want 100% shutting down of sexual arousal in all shape, way, and form on demand. Please do not give me a general answer. I am looking for specific practical and immediate solution urgently. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Depo provera in men can lower the testosterone level as explained below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I will try to answer your questions as listed in the query.

1) Depo provera in men can lower the testosterone level and reduce the libido.

2) It can also elevate the prolactin level.

3) Depo Provera should lower the dopamine levels because it is a progesterone, but the mechanism is unknown.

4) It is administered as an intramuscular shot,so you have administered it the right way.
It works for 12 to 14 weeks.

5) Androcur and Depo Provera when used both, can shut down the sexual arousal but has many side effects.

Some of the common side effects can be weight gain, mood changes, headache etc.

So,I recommend to consult an XXXXXXX before using these medications together.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards!

Brief Answer:
Depo provera is a progestin as explained below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again dear,

Depo provera is a progestin which is a synthetic analog of progesterone.

It is usually injected in either the upper arm or buttock to be absorbed easily from the organism but it can also be administered subcutaneously.

Elagolix or Orilissa, is a medication which works by decreasing the body's production of certain which leads to lower amounts of the estrogen.

It is usually used to treat endometriosis.

It is not used to lower testosterone level in men, so I would not recommend to use this medication for this purpose.

Hope it helps.

Thanks. Is depo provera a progestin as well as progesterone or just a progestin? I actually administered depo provera subcutaneously in my stomach. However the instructions were to do it intramuscularly. Does it matter? Can you recommend elagolix or orilissa to shut down testosterone in men as an off label use? Would it work? Thanks

Brief Answer:
There is no specific treatment to detox from Depo Provera.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,

There is no specific treatment to detox from Depo Provera.

It stays in the system for up to three months.

I would recommend drinking liquids and consuming fresh vegetables and fruits and their juices.

I also suggest taking herbal teas that cleanse the body and do regular physical exercise in fresh air.

Hope it helps dear,
