Question : I have been diagnosed with lichen sclerosis. My doctor has prescribed clobetasol propionate. The cream does not seem to be working as well as I had hoped. I am aware this is a life long condition and the symptoms are extremely difficult to control. Can you offer any advice? Also, I am interested in the side effects of this cream. I have recently noticed a loss of hair. Thank you so much for any information you can give me.

Brief Answer:
Clobetasol is essential part of treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I understand your concern regarding your skin problem and I hope I am able to help you in the same.
You have been prescribed clobetasol by your treating doctor after evaluation of the extent of lichen sclerosis .
Now I am sure you are well aware about the nature of your disease and the need for intermittent and long term treatment .
Whenever the disease flares up and becomes symptomatic ,treatment is essential .
Clobetasol is a potent and strong topical steroid cream and is quite effective in your problem as well .
The hair fall that you have noticed is due to the disease itself .It is not due to clobetasol use .
Also I don't think you need to be very worried about side effects of clobetasol since I am sure your doctor will taper you to a milder steroid cream once your condition is under control .
