Question: how do you tell the difference between a menopause hot flash and whether something else medically is going on. I have noticed for the last two weeks, whenever I move around I become overheated and I now sleep with a fan directly one me. I have hot and cold flashes

Brief Answer:
Complete blood count, serial temperatures

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query

The simplest way to make the difference is taking your body temperature. In an infection , the temperature is actually raised and not an issue of mere feeling.

The second thing is doing a complete blood count which shall reveal raised white blood cell levels . C reactive protein levels are high in case of infections.

In case of doubt, a clinical review from your doctor with blood tests if needed will be required.

Thanks and kind regards
