Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: I was diagnosed with trichomonias last week. I haven't been with anyone else and my partner swears neither has he. Is it possible that either one of us could have had it and it lay dormant, just now appearing? I don't want to know if this can be contacted without intercourse...just can it lay dormant...for a period of time then become infectiuos

Brief Answer:
No dormant stage but remain asymptomatic for years.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.

There is no question of Dormant stage as with Trichomonas infection. But it can remain asymptomatic for years together and produce symptoms after a prolonged period in case of women whereas it may remain asymptomatic in men for ever. It is very difficult to find Trichomonas infection in men.

Rare possibility of transmission of Trichomonas is possible from wet toilet seats or wet towels.
Instead of analyzing the the origin of infection, it is better to get treated as it is easy to cure and not a very dangerous disease.
