How Long After Stopping Oxycodone Should I Start Suboxone?

Question: I have been abusing 30mg Oxycodone for 4 months. Over the course of 4 months I have built up to 450 mgs per day of Oxycodone. I snort them.... Or on Average 15 - 30 mg pills per day. I have been prescribed Suboxone to help stop my Oxycodone Use. My question is, How long do I need to wait since my last use of Oxycodone to begin the Suboxone? It is my understanding that I need to be experiencing some level of withdrawal from the Oxycodone before I take the Suboxone. I have read a lot about Precipitated Withdrawals and Suboxone Use. I want to make sure I begin the Suboxone at the right time to avoid the PWs. Thanks in advance for your help. Sincerely XXXX

I congratulate you that you have taken good decision of quitting oxycodone.

You are taking oxycodone almost daily since 4 months. Half-life of oxycodone is around 4 hours. Most of the effects of oxycodone will go away after 24 hours of last dose. This is the time when you need to take something to prevent withdrawal. Until now you were taking oxycodone for the same. Now you have suboxone as replacement therapy. So start subxone on the next day of last intake of oxycodone to prevent withdrawal features.
