Brief Answer:
Change the antibiotic, avoid flouroquinolone, get assessed

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Levaquin also known as levofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic and is used for mostly UTIs, pneumonia and acne vulgaris etc.

I wish you would have explained what kind of reaction it was, was it an injection site reaction or some other adverse effects which levaquin has many.

If it has been a year and the symptoms you call reaction still persist they might not be due to levaquin as discontinuation of the medicine vanishes the symptoms. If you still have problems i want you to get evaluated and let them sort out the cause as a levaquin of one year ago cant be the reason for those symptoms as it is highly unlikely.

There is the safer road to get an alternative for levaquin and any antibiotic is maximally advised for a week or two and no more.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Regards
Khan

Oh I did STOP the levaquin as soon as I had the reaction. I only took 3 tablets 750 mg. each. The tendons in both shoulders ruptured-verified by MRI's. Then I had cortisone injections in both shoulder (7 days apart) and 3 months of physical therapy, lost 15 pounds in 30 days (only weighed 115 when this happened), had a colonoscopy, EGD, renogram, 2 abdominal ct's, US of liver and pancreas. I am nauseated most of the time. My labs look ok. I am just puzzled because I was fine until the reaction! The reaction occurred at 2:30 am, woke up sweating, both arms aching and very weak. I could not lift my arms to brush my hair or dress myself. My daughter-in -law came over and dressed me and carried me to the Doctor. By the way, He gave me pain pills for 10 days before He ordered the MRI's! I literally was in bed for 10 days. He was a new Doctor for me. My Physician for 20 years had been terminated by the Hospital that purchased their Practice just 2 weeks before this occurred. I think He just thought I was a "drug seeker".

Brief Answer:
musculoskeletal reactions of quinolones

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

What you had was musculoskeletal hypersensitivity to quinolones and that for sure is very Notorious reactions amongst many. It is usually common in ages less than 18 years of patients when used and only one percent people get it that after age of 18. You are that one percent.

All you symptoms are due to this musculoskeletal adverse effect of levaquine and you should know that these symptoms resolve quite gradually but they will go eventually.

Continue the physical therapy and take the conservative management I am sure it shall suffice. Stay in touch with your new doctor and let them help you in this regard.

Take care

Thank you for your attention and advice. I am really at my "wits end" with this aching and feeling weak all the time. I have even considered going to Mayo Clinic or one of the larger teaching hospitals to find a Physician with lots of experience and on the cutting edge of medicine. 2014 was not a good year for me because there was not a single day that I was not in pain-some days worse than others.

Brief Answer:
No worries

Detailed Answer:
I can understand you concern
Wherever you go you will get the sane management. If you can afford mayo clinic well and good other wise you are getting enough management here. Time is a good healer. Let it resolve your illness.

Good luck
