Question: Just started metoprolol success ER 12.5 mg this Am for palpitations/tachycardia and panic attacks. How long will it take to slow "things" down. Took @6 am. Good results. Now 4pm and symptomatic thanks

You are currently taking Metoprolol ER for tachycardia and palpitations. Because metoprolol is a long acting drug it will take 2-3 days before the medication reaches what we call steady state. This time allows for the medication to reach appropriate blood levels and not have peaks or valleys. Just give the medication some time before you decide it is not working. Your doctor may still increase the medication if your symptoms don't improve
