Question : hi, i have been on methadone for at 7 yrs before moving to alabama. i am 48yr old female with a steady medical history and have been on disability for 5 yrs. 4 bialaterl tmj surjuries with no help. doctor i picked here decided i was to young for my regulr meds and put me on noroco. it doesnt help with the pain just makes me feel loopy, which i do not want, and drowsy and upset stomach... how long does it take to get into my system and maybe work, i have no quality of life now

oe can get methadone as part of an addiction program.
most drugs take about 30 to 60 minutes to get into the brain.
then, I've never had a patient with TMJ where the narcotics were the only drug. Any nerve pill (amitryptiline, shot, anti-epileptics like lyrica are all very helpful).

i have used lyrica, neurotin and and bunch of other meds and all either caused allergic reactions or stomach issues. i take klonopin twice a day for my neuroogical issues and norotryptlin at night for depression and to help sleep. i also have sleep apnea but cant use machine due to pressurre on joints. i do not consider myself an addict, just a woman who has hurt for 20 plus years.........

Nortryptiline is perhaps the strongest drug for nerve pain. There is very little reason to go to lyrica/neurontin/etc. even if they worked the nortryptiline would do the same but better. And the others are having very atypical reactions.
Nortryptiline isn't the strongest anti-depressant, but the stronger ones ONLY work on depression and don't work as well for pain or sleep.
Methadone is easily available in addiction centers. Perhaps a university based pain cliinic but I doubt they would prescribe it.

So, too young = not dying would make sense, but I doubt that is what is meant. I have no idea otherwise as this is against everything out there in the rational medical literature.
The only question I see is on how to obtain methadone. It is not normally prescribed except in the addict population. One can say that there are risks of addiction and enter a methadone clinic prior to having serious addiction consequences. Or, far less likely to work, one could try to persuade a pain clinic to give you exactly what is on your grocery list of medications. They tend to find that a bit off-putting, while methadone clnics have a more open view on that.
