Question : Hello I had a uti and was given ciprofloxacin 500 mg for 3 days two days after I was done with the antibiotics my urine still detected a uti is this normal ? How long till a urine test declares no uti present
Brief Answer:
Longer duration of treatment required
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
I would want you to continue ciprofloxacin for 4 more days, UTI is treated with antibiotics for a mimimum of 5 to 7 days.
I would also want you to get a urine culture done to know what organism is growing and which group of antibiotics it is sensitive to. If the organism is resistant to ciproflox then there is no point treating it with this antibiotic
Urinary tract infection resolves after 5 days of treatment and will show reduced pus cells in the urine. It is not normal to have persisting pus cells in urine even after treatment
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
Regards
