How Long Does Lymphocites Take To Return To Normal?

default
Posted on Fri, 6 Jun 2014
Question: I have been having night sweats for 2 months now but they are much less severe. My blood has returned to normal except for the Lymphacites which have been stuck at 6.0 for the last 3 blood tests despite the night sweats subsiding substantially.

The Viral doctor thinks I have the CMV virus from blood tests that I have taken but he still cannot rule out Lymphoma 100% despite a blood flow test that showed that the cells are not cancer cells. Why is this?Is he wrong?

Also, how long can it take for the Lymphocites to return to normal if I have the CMV virus? The doctor that I saw feels that they should be normal by now which is why he is concerned. Please help.Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Give yourself some more time!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about the symptoms you have reported and the ongoing concerns as regards your lymphocytes numbers. Before we really talk more about this, please can you kindly tell me what lymphocytes of 6 mean? This is not a conventional way of reporting these results. Also, can you do me a favor by uploading the full lab results for comprehensive interpretation and a more personalized contribution as to what is going on?

This said, I am extremely happy to know you are doing a lot better as concerns the night sweats. Testing is more suggestive of a possible CMV and has failed to identify any cancerous cells. Though you seem to be concerned as well as your doctor that the numbers have not returned to normal, we should stick with the information we have at hand unless something new comes up. It is a CMV infection and not cancer as of now. Monitoring would be able to tell if there is any further consideration beyond the available evidence to suggest otherwise.

I am unable to comment on this lymphocyte of 6 because it is not conventional. Help provide more clarification on this for me to comment more. There is no fixed time frame for numbers to return to normal but they should continue a steady downward trend towards the expected targets.

In all, let us not pronounce what we lack evidence to back up. We should go with the CMV infection for now and consider further monitoring. If new information emerges and suggests otherwise, we shall be acting based on that. Please, be calm and don't get too worried about this.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
