How Long Does Ovarian Cyst Take To Resolve?

default
Posted on Tue, 4 Nov 2014
Question: Two weeks ago, I went to the ER due to severe abdominal pain and cramping that occurred after eating. It had gone from slight discomfort to incredibly painful over a month's time. A CT scan showed a 4.5 cm complex ovarian cyst (left ovary) with multiple septa, a few lung nodules (left lung), but nothing in my colon. Subsequently, my gynecologist wants to remove my left ovary, which is my only one left, and the GI doc scheduled a colonoscopy, which he then canceled because I was too weak and ill from the prep. Today, I was treated in the ER again for severe dehydration, and I'm very weak from not eating. Today's CT showed that the complex cyst has resolved and I now have radioplaque densities in my colon. My questions are: Is it possible for a complex cyst with multiple septa to resolve and/or what has happened to it? What do the radioplaque densities mean and do they indicate colon cancer?

Brief Answer:
no cysts dont resolve in 2 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Hi,
Thank you for contacting HCM. Please know that a complex ovarian cyst can not resolve in a matter of 2 weeks, most likely you would need another clear CT for solving the matter and if it is a complex cyst that underwent torsion, eventually you would have to undergo a surgery, however it can be a cystectomy rather than whole ovary removal, please consult your gynecologist as to which procedure would be better in your case. As for radiopaque densities in colon, this does not signify colorectal cancer by itself . The radiopaque densities by themselves with out any other changes in bowel are usually due to tablets that you may have taken. Thus you don't need to worry about it unless there is a classic apple core appearance of obstruction in colon that may be present with colorectal cancer. I hope it helps . Thank you
