How Long Does Persistent Deep Cough Take To Cure?

default
Posted on Thu, 6 Jul 2017
Question: My husband is still having a deep, loud, persistent cough 24/7. This is the third week of this condition. I am very concerned and think he needs to go to urgent care or our allergist. What do you advise?

Brief Answer:
Please get the medical help

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in HCM

I can understand your concern

As you explain the history in my opinion he should be examined for lung problems, cardiac or stomach ones.

If he were my patient i would recommend he the following:

Chest x ray
Hemogram
CRP
ECG
Cardiologist consultation
Abdominal ultrasound

According to the results the relevant specialist (pulmonologist or cardiologist or in cooperation) will advice him further for the treatment or follow up.

If the results are negative than a stomach reflux might be the cause and the gastrologist probably will give him antiacids treatment.

I do not think this is an alergic situation because in these ages the alergies are rare with this clinical picture

Please go to ER and seek medical help.I am sure that the doctor will follow the above steps.

I wish a fast recovery for your husband

Regards

After showing my husband your answers, he said he's better and not interested in going to urgent care. He would be seen by the allergist if I want to call for an appointment. I'm frustrated but I can't make him do something he doesn't want to do! Thank you for the thorough answer.

I don't have one.
