How Long Does Recovery Take After Taking Kenalog Injection?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Oct 2015
Question: Hello, so after one Chalaxion surgery back in July. Two Kenelog injections in August, appears it's gone. Saw opthomogist last Wednesday and said I had scar tissue. My question is; how long does it usually take for the eye underneath to return to normal. Also Kenelog injection was almost 3 weeks ago. When I woke this morning it felt like something was floating around . What could this be?

Brief Answer:
It takes 4-6 weeks for eyelid to become normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic

I reviewed your history and the previous questions you had asked to me on Health care Magic

Following kenalog injection it usually takes about 4-6 weeks to get back the normal architecture of the eyelid.
Hence you can wait as of now and no need to be worried.

Regarding the problem of seeing something floating around can be because of floaters or opacities in the posterior part of the eye.
These are usually seen in people aged more than 50-60 years.
Most of these are harmless and does not show progression.
However if there is increase in floaters or there is flashes of light you need to consult your ophthalmologist for examination of retina and posterior part of the eye.

Hope this answers your questions.

Thank you. The floaters only occurred this morning and my eyes were closed. Could this be caused by the Kenelog injection. Kenelog injection was almost 3 weeks ago tho. And had another injection 2 weeks prior to that. The puffynesd is lower still feels like some fluid . But directly under the eyelid there is a divit, where the Chalazion was.

So basically the swelling /puffyness is more at the injection site, not the eyelid. The feeling of the floaters is almost three weeks post injection . Is that normal?

Brief Answer:
The puffiness will decrease slowly over time.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

I reviewed your history.
The puffiness is normal and is expected to disappear slowly.

The floaters are not related to chalazion or to the kenalog injection.
These are usually harmless and if they are less then no need to worry, but if they increase you need to consult your ophthalmologist for examination of the posterior segment and retina.

Hope this answers your question.

One more question, please. Also besides the puffiness under the eye, there is discoloration, I assume this is from all the kenelog injections as well? Will this dissipate in time too? Also both eye physicians told me to take Doxycycline 40 mg. One said to take one a day for 4 months. The other said take it for 6 weeks. Can't take this antibiotic for that long. Caused me other side effects. Neither doctor told we why I should take this. I assume to prevent other Chalazions...Correct? I don't believe that medication will get the swelling down faster...would it?

Brief Answer:
The discoloration will decrease slowly.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up question.

The discoloration will also decrease slowly.
Doxycycline is prescribed for treatment of blepharitis to prevent recurrence.
At least you need to take the Doxycycline for 4 weeks.

Hope this answers your question.

That's what I thought. I do clean my eyes twice daily with baby shampoo and use the ointment at night, but as I said, the side effects for the medication are not favorable. I've apparently had blepharitis a very long time. Didn't get my Chalazion until I was 50 years old. I believe the Chalazion was actually brought on by old makeup I had used and did not wash the makeup off until the next day. My hopes are I no longer wear any makeup, clean face and eyes twice a day, use warm compress before bed. Hopefully , this will help without using the Doxycycline every day for 4-6 weeks.
