For rabies vaccine the maximum duration of immunity found has been 25 years post immunization. People are likely to have sufficient immunity for at least a presumed duration of ten years. However, in the event of exposure through the bite or scratch of an animal known or suspected to be rabid, individuals who have previously received a complete series of pre- or post-exposure rabies vaccine (with cell-culture or embryonated-egg vaccine) should receive two booster doses of vaccine.
